Ewa-Pearl City District Court

Ewa Gentry is a master-planned community on the Ewa Plain of western Oahu. It does not have its own courthouse. District court cases from Ewa Gentry are handled by the Ewa-Pearl City District Court, which is located at 870 4th Street, Pearl City, HI 96782. The phone number is 808-534-6900. The clerk's office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. That is the window for filing documents or requesting records in person.

The Ewa-Pearl City District Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, civil cases up to $40,000, small claims up to $5,000, landlord-tenant disputes, and temporary restraining orders. Its coverage area includes Ewa Gentry, Ewa Beach, Ewa, Pearl City, and Aiea. This is one of the more active divisions in the First Circuit because the Ewa Plain has grown rapidly over the past two decades, adding a large number of new residents to the area.

Circuit court matters, including felony cases and large civil claims, are handled separately at Ka'ahumanu Hale at 777 Punchbowl Street in downtown Honolulu. If an Ewa Gentry case involves serious criminal charges or a large civil dispute, it goes there rather than to Pearl City. Family court proceedings for Ewa Gentry residents use a different location: the Ronald T.Y. Moon Judiciary Complex at 4675 Kapolei Parkway, Kapolei. The phone for family court is 808-954-8310. Kapolei is close to Ewa Gentry, which makes the family court more convenient than the downtown Honolulu building for residents in this part of Oahu.

Note: Family court matters for Ewa Gentry are handled at the Ronald T.Y. Moon Judiciary Complex in Kapolei, not at the Pearl City courthouse or downtown Honolulu.

The Hawaii State Judiciary's free online portal, eCourt Kokua, is the first place to look for Ewa Gentry court cases. You can search by party name, case number, or attorney. The portal covers all court levels statewide, so a name search will pull up cases from district, circuit, and family court wherever they were filed in Hawaii. Results show the case type, status, hearing dates, and a full list of docket events.

No account or login is needed to use eCourt Kokua. You can search as many times as you want at no cost. The system is updated regularly, so recent case activity usually shows up within a day or two. If you are trying to find out the status of a case, confirm a court date, or see what happened in a past proceeding, this is the right tool. Most active and recently closed cases appear in the public search results.

Some records are not publicly available through eCourt Kokua. Cases involving minors do not show up in the public results. Records sealed by court order are also excluded. Certain family court proceedings are restricted. If a search returns no results for a case you know exists, it may fall into one of those categories. In that situation, contact the relevant court directly and explain your legal relationship to the case to find out what records you can access.

The eCrim portal is a separate tool focused on criminal conviction records. It is run by the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center, which is part of the Attorney General's office. eCrim shows convictions across all Hawaii counties and is useful if you want to know whether someone has a prior conviction rather than the status of a current case. For a full search, using both eCourt Kokua and eCrim together is more thorough than relying on just one tool.

Getting Copies of Case Documents

If you need a physical copy of a court document, you can get it at the Ewa-Pearl City District Court during counter hours. Copies cost $1.00 per page. Certified copies are available for an additional fee. Bring the case number and a photo ID when you go. Staff at the counter can look up the case and pull the file. For most active cases, copies can be made on the same visit.

You can also request copies by mail. Write to the Ewa-Pearl City District Court at 870 4th Street, Pearl City, HI 96782. Include the case number, the party names, a description of what you need, a check for the estimated copy cost, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Mail requests for active files usually take a few business days. If you are not sure what the copy cost will be, call 808-534-6900 first to get an estimate before sending a check.

Older or archived circuit court records may not be held at Pearl City. For those, the Legal Documents Branch at Ka'ahumanu Hale in downtown Honolulu handles archival requests for First Circuit cases. Call ahead if your case is more than a few years old, as some files are stored off site and retrieval takes additional time. Having the case number available when you call makes the process much faster.

The How to Access Court Records page on the judiciary website covers all the steps in detail. It is a good reference if you are not sure whether to go in person, send a mail request, or search online first. The page also explains what to do when a record you need is restricted and what documentation may help you access it.

Police Records for Ewa Gentry

The Honolulu Police Department handles all law enforcement for Oahu, including Ewa Gentry. HPD's Records Section is located at 801 South Beretania Street, Honolulu. The phone number is (808) 723-3258. You can also email records requests to recordsrequest@honolulupd.org. Police reports are separate from court docket records. HPD maintains incident reports and arrest records; the courts maintain the case files and docket entries that follow from those incidents.

For statewide criminal history data beyond what eCourt Kokua shows, the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center maintains conviction records from all Hawaii counties. HCJDC data can be accessed through public terminals at select courthouses or online through the eCrim portal. The HCJDC is a division of the Hawaii Attorney General's office and handles data across all circuits, including First Circuit cases from Ewa Gentry.

Hawaii Court Records Rules

The Hawaii Supreme Court adopted the Hawaii Court Records Rules to set standards for public access to court documents across all circuits and divisions. Under these rules, most court records are presumed to be open to the public. Restricted categories include juvenile records, sealed orders, and certain family court documents. The full rules are available at the Hawaii Court Rules page on the judiciary website.

These rules apply to the Ewa-Pearl City District Court and to the First Circuit Court in Honolulu, both of which handle cases from Ewa Gentry. Anyone can request access to a public court record without providing a reason. The right to inspect or copy public court documents does not depend on your relationship to the case. If a document is in the public category, you can request it as a member of the public.

For records held by the Honolulu Police Department or other government agencies rather than the courts, the applicable law is Hawaii's Uniform Information Practices Act. UIPA requires agencies to release records on request unless a specific exemption applies. The Office of Information Practices can assist if you believe an agency has wrongly denied a records request. OIP publishes opinions and guidance on what agencies must disclose.

For more detailed criminal history searches, the HCJDC public access sites page lists courthouse locations where HCJDC terminals are available. These allow more comprehensive queries than eCourt Kokua alone. Fees may apply for certain types of HCJDC queries. It is worth checking the site or calling ahead to understand what a particular search will cost before going to the courthouse to use a terminal.

Note: Hawaii Court Records Rules give the public a default right to inspect most court documents; sealed records and juvenile files are the main exceptions to this general access rule.
